No, Mama.

We're driving to daycare this morning, same as we do every weekday. John is driving so I take the opportunity every so often to glance back at Gus, whose seat is right behind mine. I like watching him look out the window, taking it all in.

So there I am, staring at him as he stares out the window quietly.

Gus realizes that I'm watching him. "No, Mama," he says as he shakes his head.

I turn around. No, he couldn't possibly be telling me to NOT look at him, right?

A few minutes later I look back at him.

"NO, Mama, no," this time shaking his head more than once because I obviously did not get the message.

Now, I want to respect Gus and not pester the boy, but wait just a minute! You're not 14 yet, you can't already be wanting me to leave you alone!

I have to put my foot down....well, quietly. I'll just try to watch him through the mirror, or at least not let him catch me watching him. Why do I have a feeling that will be true for many years to come?

I love him so...

Get your votes in

Tuesday is the day we have another ultrasound. Hopefully we'll get to see if Baby D2 is a girl or a boy.

Any guesses?

I think boy.

Mynay

Could someone please tell me what this word means??

Suddenly Gus' vocabulary has gone down to one very special word, MYNAY.

Me: (pointing to a sheep) What is that?
Gus: Mynay

Me: What do you want for dinner?
Gus: Mynay

Me: Where's Papa?
Gus: Mynay

Person, place or thing? Adjective?

If I say, "That's a cow!", he'll say cow, and there are a few words that he'll still say of free will (like NO, NO NO NO NO NO NO NO), but this word... help!

Another word that is starting to have a replacement: Mama. Gus is starting to drop Mama in certain situations. Example: I'm talking to someone, Gus comes up and tugs on my shirt, yelling MOM! MOM!

I'm in the other room... MOM!

Are you suddenly 14, Gus?? I figured out really quickly where he got the yelling mom show. When my mom was here last, and she had her back to me, I yelled MOM a couple of times to get her attention (she had her hearing aid on, so I knew she'd hear me if I said it loud enough). Gus must have seen how effective it was!

Again, if anyone has a good explanation for MANAY... please share!

More and more pictures

Here are the pictures from Tahoe... the layout is a little strange, but that's just the way it's going to be. What, you think I work on web design and usability all day?

ah-hem.

Lovely, lovely Tahoe

Can you say FRESH AIR?

Lake Tahoe.

I want to post the gazillion pictures we took in order to capture the beauty of the place...but I have a confession, people. Tired. Pregnant. Did I say tired? May I blame my lack of writing on going to sleep at 8:30 for about the past three weeks?

We went to Tahoe to celebrate the wedding of Rosemary, John's cousin, to Jim. We weren't sure how to pack, as the highs were in the low seventies, and the lows in the lower thirties. Two suitcases later, we covered our bases, most of it dealing with wool and jeans. Thank goodness. It was cold. Sweater cold, unless we were in the sun. I haven't seen Gus in jeans and boots and coats since before he was walking, so to see this little boy buried in clothing was a shock. Take a look.

Every morning Gus wanted to go out on the balcony and play in his pajamas...sometimes we'd just put his coat on over them and off he'd go.

More to come...must sleep! Baby D2 is 17 1/2 weeks!

I'm going to hell for saying this...

... but baby D2 looks like the aliens that people have drawn throughout the years. We had our ultrasound on Tuesday, and every angle and shape looked like pure baby. Long legs, nice spine, nose, eyes, fingers, feet...but the one picture the tech managed to print out looked exactly like this:

Alien with moving eyes

Right after the pictures printed, the power went out across the entire hospital. I'm not kidding.

Baby D2, I'm glad you're our alien. It explains so much.

I'll scan in the picture this weekend.

We had an appointment with our doctor this morning to go over the results and have my monthly check-up. Baby is measuring at the perfect size (we're 16 weeks on Saturday), the cervix is looking normal...BUT. It looks like I have partial or marginal placenta previa, I can't remember which one now, which means that the edge of the placenta is partially over the opening of the cervix. It most likely will move out of the way as the uterus grows, but still...I did not need yet another cervical thing to worry about!
