Will you be our fake Mama?

I have never been asked that question before, and I suspect that today will be the only time.

On our weekly walk back from the farmer's market, we made a pit stop in the park. There were three boys, maybe between 6 and 8 years old. They were running around in the sand with socks on, their shoes thrown to the side. I made some comment about the sand being all over their socks...and that's when one of them said, "You sound like a mama, will you be our fake mama?" Unsure of what the implications of my answer would be, and since there were no adults around with these kids, I said, sure, while I was at the playground.

I thought that was the end of it.

Then they said, "You have to tell us to go in the house."

Ok, go in the house.

"Now what?"

Oh.... OH, I'm playing fake Mama, it's all pretend playing, not like you're kids without a mom and you need one... got it, got it...

Ok, I said. It's time to get up and go to school... and then it was time to come home and eat dinner, do homework, go to bed...

Then I sent them to summer camp so I could go be a real mama and take my real son home.
