Downstairs

Ok, Eli barely says Mama anymore, he won't sign 'more' since he always wants more and probably thinks it's silly to keep repeating himself, BUT. The kid says DOWNSTAIRS. And signs it, too.

I'm totally serious.

And the pivoting. We have a full-on walker on our hands, and he can change directions without falling these days. He walks at least forty paces or more from the couch all the way to the kitchen, then turns around, goes around the dining room table, then walks straight into my arms for the biggest, sweetest hugs where he tilts his head and leans it towards me to rest on my chest. If I look down, I can see the warmest grin, and my heart melts over and over.

Lest you be lulled into a false sense of calm with this sweet story, have I mentioned the back-arching tantrums? They are short, but powerful. The boy has will...and I love every ounce of it. When Gus takes toys away from Eli, which seems to happen more often than not, Eli will protest. A lot. He's even started coming after Gus, either grabbing him or throwing his body on him. The physicalness between the two is astounding.

Then comes the frequent sweet, calm, empathetic moments, where Gus will quietly whisper to Eli, saying, "Hi, my pumpkin," and will kiss him tenderly on the forehead.

(thought I better end on a *sigh* note)
