Getting stuff done

I know this is supposed to be a time of rest and relaxation, but I've had enough rest! It's time to tackle some little projects around the house, stuff that I've wanted to do for a really long time but was either on bedrest...or procrastinating. I'll blame bedrest, it's much easier. I really wanted Gus to nap, and he wasn't doing that on his own, so I put him in the sling and off we went! We watered some plants, put dishes away, cleaned up the closet...all while he slumbered in the sling. He got a wonderful two-hour nap in, I was able to tackle some nagging issues, and my back got a workout!

Check out Gus' napping digs...

That night, Gus was showing off his neck strength, so cool!

Now, I have a request for advice from all you lurkers or non-lurkers... Gus eventually sleeps for four or five hours, but it's not happening until midnight, or like last night, 2:30. Until then, he's pretty much awake from 9 until whenever. He's mostly eating during that time, and is so overly tired... Any advice on how we can get to sleep earlier? Ultimately when I go back to work (Feb 9) we'll be getting up pretty darn early to get Gus to daycare. Leave us a comment if you have some magic to share!

Congratulations !!! Your mom gave me the web site and this is so awesome !!
As for sleep..... ha ! What worked for all 3 of our girls was...(don't laugh too hard)... we set up a few blankets on the floor of their room. I nursed the baby and fell asleep at the same time. It gave me some rest and started getting her into a routine of an actual bed time. When I woke up, I just moved her into her crib. We wanted them to get used to their crib from day 1 and never let them sleep in our bed. (rolling on them, bed too soft, etc) All were sleeping through the night by 8 weeks and in time for going back to work.

So, that's my comment. The sling is good for the newborn and the Baby Bjorn was just the best after a month or two!! Great head support for the baby and good back support for the adult.

Congrats again! Good luck on getting things done and getting some sleep!

I don't know, Janna, you could always have Ken come and stay with you for a week or two. He could rock Gus and sing Alex's song to him...I will ask my OB friends today and send you a comment tomorrow with the results. take care, deb

give gus a little nip of the ol' irish!
he'll appreciate it in highschool when his tolerance for alcohol is higher than all of his friends! (jk)

Gus, tell your mom that I had to start giving your cousin Rachel just a teaspoon of cereal mixed in her bottle at bedtime to get her over that "hump" and into the "sleeping like a baby mode." If you only add a teaspoon it won't be too thick to come through the nipple. I know your daddy is helping with the occasional bottle now so maybe you could try it and see if it helps. Yummy...cereal and milk, what more could a kid want? let us know. I have loved sharing the baby days with your other aunt in Ottumwa....Cindy
