Getting into a grove

Here we are, two weeks in. There is still at least one box unpacked in each room; considerably more in others. John has these wonderful spurts of tackling a box. I am ignoring them as much as possible. But let's forget the boxes for a minute.

Can we talk about the beach? Hello, sand. The kids have gone to the beach four times in the past week. Yes. You must come visit. If you know me at all, you know that I'm not a beachgoer by nature. If I'm going to the beach, it must be good.

The neighborhood we have moved into is amazing. People gather outside after dinner, kids playing, running all over the place. Adults chatting. Just really friendly, very kind. I have to keep reminding myself that we're not on vacation, that this is really our lives here.

Tomorrow is Gustav's first day at school, and it couldn't be a day too soon. We went to an open house tonight, and we had a hard time getting both he and Eli to leave. Gus loved his classroom. His teachers seem great. Eli is going to have a fit when he doesn't get to go to school tomorrow.

That leaves John and Eli to pass the days until the beginning of September while I work away in the office upstairs.

Our baby going to school! How was the first day? I can remember standing at the end of the driveway after my brother started to country school wanting to go with him. Boy! That was a long time ago. Maybe Eli will soon learn the perks of the only child. Especially if the parents are feeling sad about the one child off to school, and can only lavish attention on the one at hand.
