Visit with Granny Janice

We ventured out to Palatine on Sunday, such a treat for Granny and Gus to see one another. Granny has the privilage of saying she elicited the first giggle from Gus!

We visited Abby and Michelle yesterday. Gus is exactly one month younger, but now looks to be almost as long as Abby and has a bigger head and hands...so wild.

Off to daycare and work...both of which are going really well.

Hey, does anyone have advice on how to take care of a baby cold?

Okay, now you're talking respiratory therapist! There isn't much you can do for a cold in an infant Gus' age. Primarily, check for fever, push fluids and use that bulb syringe to clean out the nose and keep the icky secretions from draining into the stomach or lungs. Most pediatricians do not recommend any "cold medicines or remedies" for babies for many reasons. I can tell you those later if you are interested. As long as Gus is eating, peeing, and doesn't have a fever, it will pass. If he develops a fever, or would go for more than 8 hrs without eating or having a wet diaper, then call his pediatrician for advice. We watch kids at this age very closely for RSV because it is so easily contracted and is basically a virus that can cause dehydration and sometimes lead to pnuemonia. A cool humidifier, (not warm-they just grow bugs) is also beneficial. RSV is basically the infant version of an adult cold. Unfortunately, babies have a little more difficulty going through the process. Gus is so healthy (thanks in part to breast feeding) that I am sure that he just has a common cold or sinus thing going on. See, nothing you already didn't know or weren't doing. Hope he feels better soon.
